New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The dismal state of Indian hockey has become a major cause of concern for not just the stakeholders at home but also the FIH, which has identified '14 areas of concern' after the first phase of project 'Promotion Indian Hockey'.

The project is aimed at finding out ways to revive the game in the country and is being carried out in cooperation with the Indian Hockey Confederation (IHC) the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Olympic Solidarity, according to an FIH release.

The project is being headed by Bob Davidzon, who is a former member of the FIH.

The Dutch official, after a series of over 40 meetings with various stakeholders and a study of submitted documentation, has identified 14 'areas of concern' from international to grassroots level covering the IHC as well as the Indian Hockey Federation and the Indian Women Hockey Federation.

The report was submitted to the three bodies last year in November and includes suggestions for addressing the areas of concern.

The project will enter it's second phase after the Executive Boards of the three bodies commit themselves to allocate people and other relevant resources to assist in addressing the concerns.

Strategic options will then be discussed and evaluated and will form the basis of an overall long term plan and specific short term action plans.

Indian hockey had touched a new low in the recently concluded 15th Asiad in Doha after they returned without a medal for the first time in the history of the Games.
