New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The CBI has arrested the Director of a Punjab-based pharmaceutical company while trying to bribe a CBI Inspector in connection with a case.

Roshan Lal Kawatra was caught while handing over Rs 25 lakh to the Inspector yesterday, for not implicating him and his family for possession of G-Norphine injections containing Buprenorphine, a psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act, 1985, according to the CBI here.

The investigative agency also arrested another person Mandeep Dhawan, a Chemist of Moga, who was a conduit and who assisted the accused Director in offering the bribe.

The Director was offering the bribe for not implicating him and his family members in the CBI case which was registered last year against four other persons for possession of G-Norphine injections containing Buprenorphine, a psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act, 1985.

Investigations revealed that the Pharma Company located at Ferozpur Road, Dagru, Moga, Punjab was manufacturing and selling G-Norphine injections without bills in the illegal market for huge monetary gains and had raised bogus bills in the name of different firms of Punjab.

It was also believed that the licence of the Company was never renewed after 1998 and the Company did not take any fresh licence after the change in the constitution in November, 2001.

Searches conducted at the residences of Kawatra and the factory premises led to recovery of incriminating documents, unaccounted 700 gms of Buprenorphine and unaccounted cash of Rs 35 lakh.
