BJP hopes to wrest power in Delhi, BrihanMumbai municipal polls
New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The BJP is very confident of wresting power in Delhi Municipal Corporation and BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation.
The party is planning to move court tomorrow to ensure that elections to the Delhi Municipal Corporation were held on time.
Election process must be completed before March 31, 2007.
Sources said the BJP apprehended that the Congress was trying to postpone corporation elections on the plea that the number of municipal wards be doubled from the present 134 to 272.
''Revision of municipal wards is a very lengthy process and it cannot be completed within two-three months and if elections are delayed it will create constitutional crisis, the party is planning to tell the court,'' a senior local party leader said.
He however clarified that the BJP was not against increasing the number of municipal wards but there was no time to complete this process as elections must be finished before March 31. ''Our plea will be that election shall not be delayed at any cost or at any plea,'' he added.
