Australian Film Festival in Kolkata Book Fair.
Kolkata, Jan 4 (UNI) Six award-winning movies of Australian film maker Rolf de Heer will be screened at the Kolkata Book Fair Film Festival on January seven and eight.
The films, brought to the city as part of Australia's participation at the Kolkata book fair as ''Focus Country'', will provide audiences with snapshots of the diversity of Australian society and the excellence of the country's wide array of film-making.
Australian films and the work of Rolf de Heer featured prominently at the international film festival of India in Goa, the Chennai International Film Festival and the Kolkata Film Festivals recently.
They will also be shown in the Mumbai Film Festival from January 14.
The films to feature at the Kolkata Book Fair Film Festival are: Ten canoes, Alexandra's Project, The Tracker, The Old Man Who Read Love Stories, Dance Me To My Song and The Quiet Room.
Australia recently participated at the Kolkata International Film Festival in November 2006 in a big way as part of a two year cultural promotion program in India supported by the Australian government.
Australia's participation in the coming Kolkata Book Fair later this month and the likely presence of major Australian authors there represents the shared english language and literary connections that exist between the two countries, said Australian High Commissioner to India John McCarthy.
''We look forward to our participation at the forthcoming Kolkata Book Fair and hope that audience in India will enjoy the range and depth of Australian literature on offer,''he added.
