Alicia Molik to play in WTA Intnl in Bangalore
Bangalore, Jan 4 (UNI) Australian Alicia Molik has confirmed to play in the Sony Ericsson WTA International to be held here from February 12 to 18.
In a release here, Alicia said she was looking forward to playing in the city, about which she had heard quite often. She was keen to improve her ranking.
A wild card entrant in the Australian Open, 25-year-old Alicia had won the bronze medal at the Athens Olympics and was active between 1998 and 2004, before she missed events in 2005 due to illness. She bounced back into the game since the middle of last year. Her best on the WTA tour was rank eight.
Alicia joined Serena Williams, who had already confirmed partcipation for the tier-III event.
Tournament Director and Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association Secretary C S Sunder Raju said Alicia's presence in the Bangalore event had made the line up more challenging and interesting.
