14 dead in UP boat capsize

Lucknow, Jan 4 (UNI) At least 14 pilgrims died after a boat capsized in river Gomti in the state capital.

The boat carrying 30 people to a temple at Dadomau Ghat in Saloni village had capsized yesterday. While bodies of eight victims were recovered, yesterday six others were recovered this evening.

The rest either managed to swim to the shore or were rescued by fishermen and locals. The dead included 10 children, two women and as many men.

Thousands of people visit the Devi Mela on Dadomau Ghat, and are ferried to the site on overloaded boats.
