Zail Singh's daughter decides to contest election on Congress ticket
Ludhiana, Jan 3 (UNI) Dr Manjit Kaur, daughter of former President Giani Zail Singh, has decided to contest the February 13 Assembly elections in Punjab from Ludhiana (rural) constituency on the Congress ticket.
Dr Kaur, who resigned from the post of Senior Medical Officer of the civil hospital here last month, said she had applied for the Congress ticket to the state party office.
She had met several Congress leaders, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and was pursuaded to contest the election and serve the Congress keeping in view the services rendered by Giani Zail Singh, she added.
Ludhiana (rural) Assembly segment has a number of Ramgaria community voters Dr Kaur also belongs to the same community.
