Walk for cancer awareness in Goa on January 6

Panaji, Jan 3: A cancer awareness drive in association with Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Bicholim has been organised here on January 6 by Muskaan, a trust for cancer patients.

The campaign, 'Walk for Cancer', will commence from Old GMC Complex to Azad Maidan here.

Trustee of Muskaan Dr Sharmila Sardesai and IMA, Convenor Dr Shekhar Salkar jointly speaking to mediapersons here yesterday said the walk will be followed by a short programme performed by cancer survivors.

''It aims at creating awareness about early detection of cancer, its prevention and also to fight discrimination against cancer patients in the community and give up stigma and myths associated with it,'' Dr Salkar said.

Former chief minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar, Industrialist Srinivas Dempo, Pallavi Dempo, Dr Francisco Colaco, President IMA, fellow doctors, social workers, memebers of NGO's and college students will be participating in the walk along with cancer survivors and volunteers.
