Two arrested, 90 lakh worth gold ornaments seized

Visakhapatnam, Jan 3 (UNI) The city task force today arrested and seized 9 kg gold ornaments, worth Rs 90 lakh, from two youths posing as traders at Dwarakanagar.

Task Force Sub-Inspector M Mahesh said the arrested were identified as Lalaram Chaudhury and Arun Vyas of Rajasthan. They had brought the gold ornaments from Mumbai without proper bills, reportedly to sell them at shopping malls, jewellery marts and gold shops here.

He said the duo was moving suspiciously near a shopping mall, when on a tip off, police arrested then while they were trying to sell the yellow metal without proper bill.

Police said such incidents were on the rise and tax evasion seemed to be the main motive. A couple of months ago the task force arrested two youths from Hyderabad for the same offence.

Mr Mahesh said Lalaram and Arun said they had come to the city a week ago to survey and collect orders from reputed jewellers.

The accused would be produced in court and police were investigating.
