Third party agency may survey K'taka irrigation projects

Bijapur, Karnataka, Jan 3 (UNI) The Karnataka Government is contemplating to introduce third party agency to survey irrigation projects, Water Resources Minister K S Eshwarappa said today.

Talking to reporters here after inspecting the Mulawad lift irrigation work, he said the agency would also take responsibility for maintenance of projects.

Stating that 39 ongoing irrigation projects would be completed by March end this year, he said Rs 385 crore had been spent on these projects.

Mr Eshwarappa said the State Cabinet had approved Rs 202 crore for filling irrigation tanks in the district with river water. The Mulawad lift irrigation project would be continued, without considering the A and B schemes of Upper Krishna projects. Under the project, 79 km canal works would be completed by March next.
