seven injured in Meghalaya bomb blast

Shillong, Jan 3 (UNI) At least seven persons were injured, one of them critically, when two bombs exploded inside two illegal gambling joint at Lad Rymbai market in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills district today, police said.

Lad Rymbai, a coal belt area is about 95 km from state's capital Shillong.

Jaintia Hills district Superintendent of Police H Nongpluh told UNI over phone that the first bomb was hurled by unidentified miscreants inside the gambling joint at about 1430 hours while the second blast occurred half-an-hour later, injuring seven persons.

The injured were taken to a nearby health centre while the critically wounded person was shifted to a hospital in Shillong.

''We are still investigating into the incident,'' Mr Nongpluh said, refusing to elaborate.

Meanwhile, police officials here were investigating to link today's incident with yesterday incident in downtown Shillong.

Last night, two motor-cycle borne youths hurled a low-intensity bomb inside a garment shop, injuring four persons.

So far, police have not been able to arrest the perpetrators nor have any militant group claimed responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, police have sounded a red alert to all police stations in the state.
