Senior bureaucrat takes over as TNERC chairman
Chennai, Jan 3 (UNI) Senior bureaucrat and former Asom Chief Secretary S Kabilan today took over as the Chairman of Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC).
State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy administered his oath of office in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Secretariat here.
Mr Kabilan, whose rank would be on par with a High Court judge, would hold the office for five years.
A B.Tech degree holder from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, he joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1972 after a brief stint with National Aerospace Laboratory.
Mr Kabilan had served as the Finance Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Secretary of Asom.
He had also held various posts in the Tamil Nadu government for nine years, an official release here said.
The TNERC had been constituted to determine tariff for generation, supply, transmission and wheeling of electricity, besides, other functions, it regulates electricity purchase and procurement process of distribution licensees and also adjudicates upon disputes between licensees and generating companies for above.
