SC rejects CBI inquiry plea into Nithari killings
New Delhi, Jan 3: The Supreme Court today rejected a plea seeking CBI inquiry into the alleged rape and killings of over 20 childern at Nithari village in Noida, Uttar Predesh.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakker refused the oral contention of Ravi Prakash Gupta, an advocate, who sought CBI inquiry into the entire incident.
Mr Gupta claimed that the local police, in collusion with the culprits, were not conducting free and fair investigation into the incident which has shocked the entire nation.
The apex court said there was no need to involve the CBI or any other agency in the investigation as the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Commision for Women (NCW) were already looking into the matter.
Mr Gupta also contended that only the skulls, hands and legs of the victims have been unearthed till date, while the other portion of their bodies were still missing. Therefore, the possibility of human body organ trade cannot be ruled out, he added.
Meanwhile, Moninder Singh Pandher, his servant Surendra Koli and his maid servant have already been arrested on the charges of sexual assault and murder of small children.
Two former SHO's and three Sub-Inspectors of Noida's Sector 31 police station have been suspended and the present SHO has been sent to lines for dereliction of duty.
