Chandigarh, Jan 3 (UNI) The Chandigarh Police today registered a case against Brig (Retd) J S Jaswal, Director of Punjab Sainik Welfare Board, for sexually harassing a defence widow.

Raj Kaur, 35, the widow of gallantry award-winner Havildar Gurnam Singh of 13 Field Regiment, had accused the Director of sexually harassing as well as threatening her life.

She had approached the National Commission for Women for help and held a press conference last week accusing the Brigadier, saying despite complaints to the authorities no action had been taken against him.

After an inquiry into the much-publicised case, the city police today registered a case under sections 506 and 509 of the IPC against the Director.

In her complaint, Raj Kaur had said that after her husband's death in Operation Rhino in 1997, she had joined the Board as a clerk in 2000.

When Jaswal joined as Director in 2003, he tried to force her to have a physical relationship and began harassing her when she thwarted his attempts, she said adding that he also spoiled her ACR to pressurise her.
