Rane urges NRGs to participate in socio-economic development
Panaji, Jan 3 (UNI) Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane today appealed to the Non-Resident Goans (NRGs) to look up to the opportunites to participate in the socio-economic development of the state.
Speaking after inaugurating the three-day Global Goans Convention at Dona Paula, Mr Rane said the state government has embarked upon building a knowledge-based society by setting up centres of excellence.
The convention has been appropriately entitled re-uniting goans, he said.
The chief minister hoped that delegates will avail of the opportunity of the convention to articulate their views on issues dear to them. the threadbare discussion on such issues could lead to identification of the solution and paving way for follow-up action.
He said Government was prepared to discuss the regional plan 2011 and if there any excesses, they were prepared to rectify the same.
The commissioner for NRI Mr Eduardo Faleiro said his office has been assisting Goans in distress abroad. Most of the cases brought to his notice related to persons harassed by their employers in the gulf. In such matters, assistance of Embassies and consulates in the respective countries was sought and the required follow-up action taken expeditiously.
