Piracy racket of text books unearthed
New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) The Delhi Police have unearthed a racket of pirated text books of class 10, 11 and 12 with the arrest of two persons and seizure of books worth Rs 2.5 lakh and huge raw material for their manufacture.
One Dev Prakash Gupta was arrested from Preet Vihar on December 29, during a police raid at his shop, for selling pirated books and 1800 pirated books sezied from his book store.
The raid was conducted after secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education Vinit Joshi lodged a complaint that a Math text book containing sample question papers for class 10 had been pirated and some booksellers were selling these pirated copies.
Interrogation of Dev Prakash Gupta revealed that he was getting the stock of pirated books from Nitin Verma, a big publisher of pirated books based at Shahdara. Nitin was then arrested by the police and 300 pirated books were recovered from his printing press at Vishwas Nagar in Shahdara.
Cases under relevant sections of the Copyight Act have been lodged against the two and further investigation is on to unearth the entire racket.
