Parents sacrifice two sons, daughter rescued

Baripada, Jan 3 (UNI) In a most bizarre and ghastly act, two children Mono alias Harish (9) and his younger brother Lunga (7) were sacrificed by their parents to propiciate the wealth of god.

The grisly tale of human sacrifice was reported at Tilpal village on Friday but the matter came to light only today, when the couple was making final arrangment for a third kill, a baby girl, in a bid to be blessed with wealth and fortune, police said.

The two boys were sacrificed at the altar of ''Tantra Sadhana'' by their parents - Padmalochan Jnana(40) and Tuni Jnana (34) at Tilpal village under Makadapada Gram Panchayat of Kaptipada police station, about 55 kms from here.

Jagannath Tudu, a tribal tantric of Bankati village who performed the rituals in the house of Padmalochan, was absconding, police said.

The couple had decided to kill their five-month-old-girl this morning at the altar of ''Tantra Sadhana'', but their plan was foiled by timely intervention of police.

The tantric reportedly assured the parents that their two children already sacrificed, will spring back to life as soon as they would perform the third sacrifice of their youngest daughter.

Locals suspected something wrong with the family when foul smell emitted from the two decomposed and putrefied bodies of Mono and Lunga.

Kaptipada Police Inspector Nrusingha Swain and the OIC Pitabasa Swain swung into action, and arrested the couple, Surendra Behera (father-in-law of Padmalochan) and his spouse Alina Behera.

Police also rounded up four other daughters of Surendra for interrogation. The baby girl was rescued.

A case was registered under section 302 IPC at the Kaptipada police station against the four persons arrested and the other four detained for interrogation.
