Srinagar, Jan 3 (UNI) Night in Kashmir, Drass and Kargil was cold and the day warm, while the Western Disturbances (WD) from Northern Pakistan are fast approaching Jammu and Kashmir which could result in snowfall or rains tomorrow afternoon.

A weather office spokesman told UNI that the disturbances are presently active in Pakistan and can cross over to this side tomorrow afternoon or late in the evening.

He said the WD which had entered the Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan in the last week, had now crossed over to China and nearby areas. However, some of the disturbances rebounded back and entered some northern states after touching the mighty Himaliyas.

He said the weather will remain dry which will result in further drop in the night temperatures which was recorded at minus 3.7 degrees celcius, two degrees below normal today.

The water supply in many areas was disrupted as the tapes froze this morning. However, in the majority areas the Water Works Department has stopped water supply during the nights to avoid freezing of tapes during the 40 day ''Chalai Kalan'', the coldest period of winter.

However, the day was comparatively warm as the maximum temperature was recorded at 10.5 degrees, 5.5 degrees above normal.

Taking advantage of sunny days, people in Kashmir were seen enjoying the weather visiting their relatives and distributing the meat of animals sacrificed on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha.

Minimum temperature at Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, was recorded at minus 14.5 degrees. However, the maximum temperature was 10 degrees.

It said the night temperature at Kargil was minus 10.5 degrees while the maximum was 12 degrees.
