Mulayam not averse to CBI probe into Nithari killings

Lucknow, Jan 3(UNI) Amid mounting political pressure, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said he was not averse to a CBI probe into the Nithari serial killings and announced that he will soon visit the spot.

''We are waiting for the two-member committee's report which is in Nithari to probe the incident,'' he said.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Yadav said his government was not against recommending a CBI probe into the killings, but any decision would be taken after the committe's report.

'' We are expecting the report of the Committee comprising Home Secretary Arun Sinha and ADG (Law and Order) A C Sharma within a day or two. The government would evaluate the situation after the report comes and would order a CBI probe only if needed,'' he added.

When asked why neither he nor any of his party leaders visited Nithari, the CM said the government did not want to disturb the police who were busy in working out the case as visit of any VIP would create a law and order problem.

''I will certainly go there very soon,'' the Chief Minister said.

To a poser, Mr Yadav hinted at the action against senior police officials after the Committee submits the report. At present, only some policemen have been suspended on a prima facie investigation.

All the political parties, including the Bharatiya Janta Party, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party, have been demanding a CBI probe into the ghastly killings of children in Noida unearthed last week.

The UP government had constituted a three-member probe Committee on December 31, asking it to submit the report within three days.
