Mulayam announces Rs 5 lakh compensation
Lucknow, Jan 3 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each to the family members of the children and women who were killed by the serial killer in Noida.
Chief Minister Mulayam singh Yadav announced the compensation here this evening. Earlier, Rs two lakh ex-gratia was announced by the state government.
Mr Yadav said payment would be made either to the family members or relatives.
On December 29 last, Surendra the main serial killer, had admitted that he had raped and killed nine children and six women.
One of them was deepika alias Payal, whose mobile recovery led to the gruesome crime coming to light. Others were those who worked in the area as maids or did petty jobs and were lured into the house where the accused lived.
Meanwhile, police dug up the lawns of the 'killer house' in Nithari village as part of its continuing efforts to gather evidence against the serial killings.
However, ''nothing suspicious'' was found in the night-long digging of the non built-up area at 'D-5 Nithari Gaon' in Noida's Sector 31, according to top police sources. But the final word would be out only after laboratory tests are conducted on the unearthed substances.
The UP government had already formed a two-member high powered committee to probe into the case.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha member Vinay Katiyar today demanded that at least Rs ten lakh should be given to all those who had suffered.
