Mizoram initiated peace talk with hmar insurgents
Aizawl, Jan 3: Ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) government in Mizoram has initiated peace deal with underground Hmar People's Conference (Democratic) on the eve of 20th anniversary of peace in the state.
State home departemnt sources here today said the peace initiative was taken by MNF leaders, as a section of the leaders of the outfit, which has strongholds in Mizoram, Manipur and North Cachar Hills district of Assam expressed willingness to come overground.
"The outline of the package would be similar to other deals clinched with Bru National Liberation Front(BNLF) and Bru Liberation Front of Mizoram (BLFM), who had laid down arms before the government in previous years," sources said.
The move is reported to have the approval of chief minister Zoramthanga.
