Mercury dips as cold wave in Delhi intensifies

New Delhi, Jan 3: The cold wave, sweeping through Delhi over the past week, intensified with the mercury plummeting to 6 degree Celsius, one degree below normal, even as the fog abated this morning.

Cold northwesterly winds, coupled with ground frost conditions prevailing over Punjab, North Haryana and North Rajasthan, resulted in a sharp fall in minimum temperature, from 8.6 degree yesterday, to 6 degree today.

However, the foggy condition in Delhi improved with the visibility levels being recorded at 800 m at 0830 hours.

The chill could further intensify in the next 24 hours with weathermen forecasting a drop in minimum temperature to 5.6 degree tomorrow. They have also forecast fog in the morning hours in Delhi tomorrow with a clear sky expected later in the day.
