Kolkata, Jan 3(UNI) The condition of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, admitted to a city nursing home, was stable even though doctors conducted a scanning on her today to determine the condition of the liver.

''Ms Banerjee is otherwise stable and improving. She ran a low grade fever last night and that is why we conducted a scanning of the lower abdomen in the afternoon to investigate into the condition of her liver,'' Dr Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar, one of the attending physicians, told UNI.

Denying reports that Mamata's condition deteriorated, Dr Ghosh Dastidar said there was nothing to worry about her health. ''Though she was still in ICU, her problems are easing out and she is taking normal food. We are going for thorough investigations to know the reason of her fever,'' he said.

Dr Ghosh Dastidar, however, said the Trinamool leader was still ''very weak'' becuase of lack of nourishment for weeks and it would take a few more weeks to recover from this condition.

Ms Banerjee was admitted to the nursing home in the midnight of December 28 immediately after she called off her 25-day-long hunger strike in protest against land acquisition at Singur for Tata Motors' small car factory.

A seven-member board of doctors was set up to take care of her health.

Initially, she was put under oxygen support for breathlessness while successive medical probes detected some degree of liver dysfunction and gastritis. However, with every passing day, doctors said she was gradually improving responding to the treatment. UNI
