KVIC to double production

Jaipur, Jan 3 (UNI) Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) plans to double its turnover next year from present Rs 12,383 crore.

Commission Chairman Kumudben Joshi talking to newsmen here said while service industry has been instrumental in triggering growth in the urban areas khadi would act as the catalyst for rural transformation of the villages.

She said khadi commission has initiated talks with the Ministry of Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation, Social Welfare departments for Khadi organisations acting as an agent to implement the projects of these ministries.

''A convergence of programmes of these ministries and khadi organisations have been identified to address the issue of rural poverty with the khadi organisations serving grassroot level executing agency,'' she said.

Ms Joshi said the khadi commission has launched many new initiatives to make khadi more trendy. The product development, design intervention and packaging and mission projects on ready to use have been introduced with the objective of improving quality and design by innovative value addition.
