Home Guard shoots father-in-law, injures wife, sis-in-law

Phagwara, Jan 3 (UNI) A Home Guard shot dead his father-in-law while his wife and sister-in-law sustained bullet injuries at their home in Ranipur Rajputan late last night.

Phagwara ASP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill told UNI that police has recovered three empty cartridges of .303 bore weapon and registered case under sections 302/307/34/450 IPC and 25/54/59 of Arms Act against accused jawan Balbir Lal, posted at Jalandhar.

Balbir was married to Kamaljit about one-and-a-half-year ago, but she had returned to her father's house alleging physical and mental torture by him, specially under the influence of alcohol, Kuldip Ram, brother of Kamaljit, said.

He also alleged that Balbir used to make threatening calls to them to send Kamaljit back but she was unwilling to return due to fear of physical assaults.

According to Kuldip, Balbir, accompanied by another unidentified man, came to their house last night and opened fire on his father Modi Ram who sustained a bullet injury on his neck. He then shot at and injured Kamaljit and Sunita (wife of Kamaljit).

All the three were immediately rushed to a private hospital, where Modi Ram was declared brought dead, while Kamaljit and Sunita were move shifted to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where they were battling for their lives.

Police was looking for the absconding Home Guard.
