Goa freedom fighters condemn proposed felicitation of Coissoro
Panaji, Jan 3 (UNI) Freedom fighters from Goa have condemned the proposal to honour ''anti-Indian'' Dr Naraina Coissoro in the ongoing Global Convention hosted by the Goa Government's NRI Commissionerate.
The Action Committee of Goan Freedom Fighters, in a press release here today, said it is a ''shameful decision'' by the Goa Government to honour Coissoro who had denounced the first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for liberating Goa from the fascist colonial rule by military action. Coissoro had also passed derogatory remarks agaist Goan freedom fighters, the committee said in the release.
The committee has submitted memoranda to the Goa NRI Commissioner, the Chief Minister and the Governor demanding the cancellation of the felicitation function for Coissoro.
The freedom fighters have also expressed opposition to the decision of Goa University to honour Portuguese President Dr Cavaco Silva with an honorary doctorate.
