Convict commits suicide

Pune, Jan 3 (UNI) A 21-year-old convict, serving a life sentence for murder, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the Yerwada Jail premises this afternoon.

Jail superintendent Rajendra Dhamane told UNI that Ramesh Jaisinh Gaikwad, hailing from Indapur taluka in this district, was suffering from depression ever since the judgement was pronounced against him in January last year.

The convict had used his ''pajamas'' to hang himself from the tree, Mr Dhamane said. He died immediately even before security personnel could reach him, Mr Dhamane said.
