Jammu, Jan 3 (UNI) Led by sword bearing 'Panj Piyaras', amid enchanting of 'Shabad-Kirtan', thousands of Sikhs from all walks of life took out a colourful religious procession in the city today to mark 341st birth anniversary of 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.

The 'Nagar Kirtan' that started from Bibi Chand Kaur Gurudwara in the old city in the morning, culminated at Gurudwara Singh Sabha at Nanak Nagar in the evening, covering a distance of 12 kms.

Marching on the drum beats, students from various educational institutions also participated in colourful procession.

People from different religious backgrounds welcomed the procession, standing on both sides of the road thoughout its way.

Several contingents of devotees led by traditionally clad 'Panj Piyars' with bare swords in their hands proceeded in the tight cover of armed police personnel.

Unlike yesterday, clear weather also added to the fervour of birthday celebrations, which falls on January 5.

However, long traffic jams on the city roads due to several diversions in the routes affected general life.
