Centre releases funds for Orissa unhder Rural Livelihood Project
New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs 7.41 crore during 2006-07 to the Orissa Government for implementation of the Western Orissa Rural Livelihoods Project.
The Department Of Land Resources has released the amount for the Department for International Development (DFID) assisted Western Orissa Rural Livelihoods Project (WORLP) in the Districts of Bolangir (228 lakh), Naupada (142.50 lakh), Kalahandi (256.50 lakh) and Bargarh (114 lakh) in the State.
The project is being implemented through the DRDAs for development of watershed areas in the four backward districts of Western Orissa. The purpose of the project is to support sustainable livelihoods, particularly for the poorest in these districts.
The project has three components, namely promoting livelihood improvements, capacity building for primary and secondary stakeholders and encouraging an enabling environment.
The project initially covered two districts, namely, Bolangir (14 Blocks) and Naupada (5 Blocks) and was extended to Kalahandi (6 blocks) and Bargarh (4 blocks) in 2004-05. It was launched in 2000 and is to be completed by 2009.
