Bomb scare spreads panic in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, Jan 3: Ripples of fear spread across the town after a bomb was found in the premises of the agriculture department here.

According to a watchman working with the department, he found a plastic bag containing a tin of baby food which was connected with a timer and some electric wire.

Suspecting it to be a bomb, the watchman immediately informed the police and the higher authorities of the agricultural department.

Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area.

Cooch Behar Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said, ''We don't want to take any chance and have informed the Siliguri Bomb Squad.

''The squad would arrive here in a few hours and only then we can say whether it is a bomb,'' Mr Kumar added.

The entire area had been covered by sand bags as a precautionary measure, police said.
