APCO achieves Rs 112 crore turnover: Minister
Hyderabad, Jan 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Labour, Handloom and Textiles G Vinod today said the Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO) had achieved a turnover of Rs 112 crore during 2005-06.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the APCO had planned for Rs 150 crore turnover during 2006-07 and had already earned Rs 83.80 crore, as of now, through its 188 sales outlets.
Mr Vinod said the state government had sanctioned special festival advance to government employees for the purpose of purchase of handloom cloth from APCO with a view to increase its sales.
He said the APCO had received orders worth five crore rupees from police department and Tirupati Tirumala Devastnam (TTD) had placed orders for the supply of sarees and dhoties for the proposed 50,000 mass marriages.
The minister said the Welfare Department in the state had issued an order for Rs 30 crore to APCO towards supply of dress material and bedding materials to the hostel borders for the year 2007-08.
He said out of 188 sales outlets, as many as 30 showrooms were renovated to attract the customers in the changed market trend and to maximise its sales.
The APCO was participating in all national and state level exhibitions to showcase its varieties and brand promotion, he said.
The APCO was pursuing with airport authorities to open its sales outlets, he added.
