Hyderabad, Jan 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has donated 997 acres of land belonging to his family members and relatives for second generation land reforms ('Bhooyagnam') in the state.

Addressing a press conference here today, State Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao said the Chief Minister was able to persuade his family members and relatives to donate the land in Thimmamambapuram village of Penugaluru Mandal of Kadapa District.

The Chief Minister had already surrendred 310 acres of agricultural land in Idupulapaya village.

Dr Reddy's family members comprising his brothers, sisters and cousins had all joined him in his decision to voluntarily relinquish rights over vast extents of lands approximating 1,300 acres notwithstanding the fact there was nothing unlawful or irregular in the holdings.

A family-owned company had purchased an extent of 339 acres and entered into an unregistered agreement of sale for an additional extent of 723 acres which was also in the physical possession of the company.

The consideration for the entire extent was already paid by the company. The lands would not attract the provisions of AP Land Ceiling Act as it was not an agricultural land, he claimed.

The Revenue Minister urged the political leaders and individuals to come forward to donate the lands to strengthen the government's programame of second generation land reforms.
