NCP keen on alliance with Congress for civic elections: Patil

Mumbai, Jan 2 (UNI) Although the Congress has decided to contest the February one municipal corporation elections on its own in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Amrawati and Nagpur, the Nationalist Congress Party is keen that the Congress-NCP alliance should be intact for the prestigious Brihanmumbai, Thane and other four civic bodies going to the polls.

In order to thrash out the issues that are coming in the way of forging the alliance, NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was to hold a meeting with his party colleagues late this evening.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader R R Patil, while speaking to reporters here today, said the NCP wants to forge an alliance with the Congress in order to avoid the division of secular votes.

He said that in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Amravati and Nagpur, the Congress has decided not to ally with the NCP.

Mr Patil said that it is after working out an alliance with the Congress, his party will consider sharing of seats with other secular parties like the Republican Party of India and the Samajwadi Party.
