Kashmiri Samiti slams AIKS decision to form political party
New Delhi, Jan A1 (UNI) Kashmiri Samiti, the nodal agency for Kashmiri Pandits, today slammed the decision of the All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) to launch a political party and described it as ''bizarre'' which smacked of political ambitions.
The AIKS, a socio-cultural organisaton looking into the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits who were displaced from the valley in the wake of terrorism in 1990, had, at a three-day conference in Kolkata, envisaged forming a political party to take on the problems facing Kashmiri Pandits.
In a statement issued here, the Kashmiri Samiti said there seemed to be a sinister plan behind the proposal of forming a political outfit.
The Samiti wanted to know how could the AIKS suddenly ''convert'' itself into a political outfit when it had been mandated only to coordinate the activities of various Kashmiri Pandit organisations affiliated to it as an apex body.
Referring to the 'Kolkata Declaration' adopted by the AIKS after its three-day conference, the Samiti said Kashmiri Pandits saw no merit in the move and did not subscribe to it.
It said the AIKS had not explained as to how would the move benefit Kashmiri Pandits.
