MGEH doctors conduct rare eye surgery
Baripada, Dec 31: A 55-year old tribal man recently walked intothe Mahatma Gandhi Eye Hospital(MGEH) here complaining of severe painand rapid loss of vision in his right eye.
Ophthalmologists S K Das and Paramjit Singh discovered that amicroscopic live worm, a one cm in length and white in colour, washosted in the anterior chamber of the eye. Tineasis in eye is a veryrare disease and tinea in the anterior chamber of the eye was furtherrare in the history of eye care.
It was a challenging task for the MGEH doctors but the twosurgeons performed this rare surgery resolutely, removed the worm andgot Gopinath of Baladia village fully cured of the Tineasis.
According to the surgeons ''one can get affected by this type ofworm after consuming under-prepared or unhygienic beef, but it veryrarely affects eye."
