Golden Peakock to set up two units in Pantnagar

New Delhi, Dec 31: Supplier of electrical and wiring accessoriesGolden Peakock Overseas Ltd (GPL) will set up two units in Pantnagar tomeet the increased international demand for its products with aninvestment of Rs 10 crore.

The new units, to be operational by March next year, will add tothe capacity of the organisation and also churn out products which are''technologically superior as well as cost competitive.'' The unitswill offer direct as well as indirect employment to around 400 people.

The company has recently became one of the first companies fromIndia to comply with a new directive issued by European Union forimports from India and other Asian countries.

Named as Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), the directivewhich took effect on July 1, 2006, restricts the use of six hazardousmaterials in the manufacture of various types of electronic andelectrical equipment including lead, mercury and cadmium.

''As soon as the new stringent standards were announced, GPLembarked upon a focused plan to change over from scrap brass as itsinput material to extruded brass sourced from standard manufacturingunits and also changed its manufacturing process to adopt to muchtighter control in the machining,'' company's Chairman and ManagingDirector Rajan Kapoor said.

Subsequent to the compliance, the company has received significantorders from overseas including a maiden order from US retail giantWal-Mart, Mr Kapoor added.

Pier 1, Massive and Mark and Spenser's are some of the globalretailers who have been sourcing their supplies from Golden PeakockLtd.

The company has a production facility at Noida free trade zonespread over 2,00,000 sq ft and is a leading supplier of lamp holders,brass components, lamp bases, lamp shades and electrical and wiringaccessories from India.

North America, the UK and Europe are the leading markets for the company.
