Tribunal summons Meghalaya-based militant outfits
Shillong, Dec 30 (UNI) The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal has asked Meghalaya-based Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) and Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to appear before it on February 12, 2007.
''Both the militant organisations have been directed to show cause why they should not be declared as unlawful associations, as required under Sub Section (1) and Section 4 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.'' They have also been asked to appoint their lawyers to project their case in the Delhi High Court.
The centre had declared both the outfits as unlawful on November 16 under the Act.
However, the Centre constituted a tribunal comprising Justice S Ravindra Bhat, of Delhi High Court to adjudicate whether there is sufficient cause for declaring ANVC and HNLC as unlawful organisations.
