Senior police officer among 2 killed, three injured in Kashmir
Srinagar, Dec 30 (UNI) A police officer was among two people killed and three others were injured while security forces arrested a Lashkar militant and recovered arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.
An official spoksman said militants attacked Station House Officer (SHO), Pampore Manzoor Ahmad, when he was going to the main market.
Manzoor and his guard, constable Chand Mohammad and three civilians were critically wounded in the attack.
The injured were rushed to a hospital where the SHO and one of the civilians Jan Mohammad, died. Chand Mohammad was being operated upon by the doctors in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura. Both the injured civilians are out of danger, doctors said.
Security forces, guarding the highway, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
A spokesman said security forces and police in a joint operation arrested a militant of Lashker-e-Toiba (leT) near bus stand at Vaidpora, Handwara. One hand grenade, one wireless set, three electroic detonators, one kg explosive and one mobile phone were recovered from his possession.
He said security forces recovered one hand grenade and 29 rounds of ammunition at Khanati Banola in Poonch district of Jammu region.
However, no one was arrested.
