BJP leader Gopinath Munde injured in road accident

Beed, Maharashtra, Dec 30 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde fractured his left hand in a road accident at Parali, about 42 km from here, today.

The accident occurred at around 1630 hrs when the car in which he was travelling hit a road-side tree. He was on way to his residence in Parali, police sources said.

He was accompanied by four others. They were returning after attending a meeting at the engineering college, Mr Munde's personal assistant Pradip Kulkarni, told UNI on telephone.

According to Mr Kulkarni, the driver of the vehicle applied the brake while trying to save a child crossing the road.

As per the initial information, Mr Munde's left hand was fractured and he was admitted to Sanjivani Hospital at Parali.

The Senior BJP leader would be taken to Mumbai for further treatment, Mr Kulkarni added.

Mr Munde was on a visit to his hometown for the last five days.

Meanwhile, official sources said the state government was trying to arrange a helicopter to fly Mr Munde to Mumbai.
