Biting chill may play spoilsport in New Year eve revelry
New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) A severe chill continued to put Delhiites in a ''freeze'' for the second consecutive day today, threatening to put a dampener on the New Year Eve celebrations in the capital.
With mercury rising just slightly, from the season's lowest of 5 degrees Celsius yesterday to 5.2 degrees Celsius today, two degrees below normal, there was no let-up in the chill for the people of Delhi. More so with the cold easterly winds adding to the chilly weather conditions.
The weather conditions are not expected to get any better when Delhiites ring in the New Year with the weatherman forecasting the minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius tomorrow as well.
However, even as the chill exacerbated, the visibility levels in the Capital remained at normal levels for the third consecutive day.
For, even though there was fog in the morning visibility remained over 400 m, which is considered normal.
The weatherman attribute the chill in the Delhi air since yesterday to the snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttaranchal over the past few days under influence of a Western disturbance.
The weather office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi for the next 24 hours with slight fog or mist in the morning hours.
