UP boys and girls keep gymnastic team titles

Mohali, Dec 29 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh boys and girls once again established their supremacy as they won the artistic team trophies in the XX Sub-Junior Artistic and XVIIth Senior Rhythmic National Gymnastic Championships here this evening.

The UP boys squad comprising Chandan Pathak, Nitin Mishra, Abhishek Chatterjee, Ankit Tripati, Vikas Bhattya and Saurav Sharma retained the team trophy with an impressive total of 52.50 points.

The West Bengal team consisting of Anubav Ghosh, Surjit, Anil Mallick, Shubhaukar Dey, Karamchand Murmee and Pratis Das finished runners-up with 481.45 points. They pushed last edition's runners-up Andhra Pradesh (A. Kumar Swami, K.D.V Srinivas, B.

Lakhau Balmiki, K.V. Suresh, N. Sri Sai and A. Mahesh Babu) to the third place with 479.40 points. West Bengal were third in the last nationals.

In the girls competitions, the UP team once again emerged team champions with an aggregate total of 320.65 points, including 172.25 in compulsory exerces A. Kumar Swami 52.80, K.D.V Srinivas 52.85, B. Lakhau Balmiki 53.35, K.V. Suresh 53.00, N. Sri Sai 41.70, A. Mahesh Babu 50.25.

The well-earned triumph was made possible with brilliant performance by Manu Dwivedi (63.40), Khayati Shukla (61.05), Manisha Singh (64.15), Nikhita Gupta (65.20), Arundhati Pandey (65.95) and Tripti Tiwari (56.65).

The West Bengal squad comprising Tanu Shaw (63.10), Sangita Biswas (60.50), Parbali Sarkar (62.90), Liza Hazra (58.00), Payal Bhattacharjee (55.20) could secure 315.40 points, including 168.90 in compulsory exercises, to be declared worthy runners-up.

The third position went to Maharashtra (Dirja Ashar 63.56, Shivani Pathak 60.40, Rucha Dinkar 63.90, Roma Jogalekar 60.46, Pooja Karnik 60.20) who were awarded 311.45, including 166.25 in compulsory.

Hosts Punjab ((Naginder Kaur 64.25, Simranjit Kaur 60.15, Varinder Kaur 56.30, Sangeeta 59.50, Navneet Kaur 51.35) finished fourth with 293.25 points, including 134.45 in optional routine.

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh obtained fifth and sixth positions with 263.35 and 261.30 points, respectively.
