TN Govt mulls pension for temple employees: Minister

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government is planning to cover 12,000-odd employees of various Hindu temples under the Pension Scheme, Hindu Endowment Minister K R Periya Karuppan today said.

Talking to newsmen at the historic Arulmigu Mariyamman Temple at Samayapuram, near here, after releasing a book on the history of the temple, he said the government was taking necessary efforts in this regard.

To a query, he said the government would be recruiting over 200 persons for the post of Executive Officers in various temples in the state which were lying vacant through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

Similarly, the process of appointing Trustees for about 90 first-grade temples was in progress. So far, 60 trustees had been appointed and the remaining persons would be appointed in ten days.

The government has taken up a massive exercise to renovate temple cars numbering 241, belonging to various temples, at a cost of Rs 15 crore.

It was also conducting feasibility studies for operating a rope car at the famous Lakshmi Narasingar Temple at Sholingar, on the lines of the one at Palani Hills.
