TN Govt announces 2 new awards; Veerappan, Ponnamal selected
Chennai, Dec 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today announced constitution of two new awards in the name of late Chief Ministers C N Annadurai and K Kamaraj and selected Dravidian leader R M Veerappan and veteran Congress leader A S Ponnammal for the awards.
An official release here said in addition to the awards given in the name of saint poet Thiruvalluvar, Bharathiyar, Bharathidasan, Periyar, Ambedkar and Thiru Vi Ka, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi ordered constitution of two new awards from this year.
While former Minister Veerappan would be presented the Anna award, former Congress legislator Ponnammal would be given the Kamaraj award.
The awards, carrying a cash of Rs One lakh and one soverign gold medal, would be presented to them at a function to be held here on January 8, the release added.
