Riyazuddin shines as Railways run over Delhi in national basketball
Jaipur, Dec 29 (UNI) Riyazuddin's brilliant performance helped Railways put behind yesterday's defeat against Kerala and mow down Delhi 85-55 in men's Group A Super League tie in the 57th Senior National Basketball Championship at the SMS Stadium here today.
Railways, who had lost to Kerala late last evening 73-84, led by 47-36 at the intervel against Delhi today.
Riyazuddin was the driving force behind Railways' campaign today scoring 40 points for the side, while Jasjeet (16) and Shiv (13) chipped in with useful contributions.
Delhi could not pose any serious threat to the Railways in this match and trailed right from the word go.
For them, Shravan (11), Lakshya (10) and Sunil (7) put up a defiant show but it was not enough in the end.
Yesterday's tie between Kerala and the Railways too produced some good basketball as the two fought tooth and nail before the former sealed the issue.
Meanwhile, in a super league B tie, Tamil Nadu whipped Madhya Pradesh 80-52 after leading 47-25.
In women's Super League Group A, Maharashtra routed Tamil Nadu 60-22 after taking a lead of 31-14 at the interval, while Chhattisgarh defeated Madhya Pradesh 73-59 in a group B super league match. The winners led 43-25 at the half time.
