Pawar sends in his nomination for the top post at ICC
Mumbai, Dec 29 (UNI) Sharad Pawar, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today sent in his nomination for the presidentship of the International Cricket Council after the four Asian Test playing nations reached a consensus on the issue.
Pawar's name was agreed upon and proposed for the top ICC job at a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Singapore.
The Chief Administrative Officer of the BCCI, Prof Ratnakar Shetty said ''All four Asian Test-playing nations -- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- have decided to nominate Mr Pawar and his nomination has been sent to the ICC.'' Incumbent ICC president Percy Sonn has still two years left but the process of filing nominations ends on January 1, 2007.
Earlier, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, who is accompanying Mr Pawar in Singapore for an ACC meeting, had revealed that Asian countries had agreed to back Pawar for the post.
''Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are in favour of Mr Pawar and we hope to elicit the support of the West Indies too,'' he said.
Voting on the nominations will take place at the ICC's annual meeting in London in July, 2007.
