Minus 22 degrees in Drass, sunny day in Kashmir
Srinagar, Dec 29 (UNI) Drass, the second coldest place in the world, remained cold with minimum temperature dipping to minus 22 degrees Celcius while it was yet another sunny day in Kashmir where people were busy making purchases for Id-ul-Zuha.
A report from Drass said the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 22.5 degrees while the maximum was minus 7.5 degrees.
However, Kargil was slightly warm as the minimum temperature was minus 15 degrees and maximum minus 5.5 degrees.
However, people at both the places were busy purchasing bakery, meat, chicken and animals, ahead of the January 1 celebrations.
The authorities have already suspended water supply through tapes at Kargil and Drass. However, at Kargil, water is being supplied to residents in water tanks while people at Drass are using spring water, as the temperature goes down to minus 40 degrees there.
The Srinagar-Drass road will remain closed for six months due to heavy snowfall at Zojila, Gumri and Zero point. However, Drass-Kargil and Leh Highway remained open despite snowfall.
The District authorities and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, claimed that enough stock of essential commodities, Kerosene oil and LPG gas was available in all parts of the district.
Meanwhile, it was yet another sunny day in Kashmir with minimum and maximum temperature recorded above normal.
