Meghalaya police yet to trace abducted children
Shillong, Dec 29 (UNI) Five months after the kidnapping of two children the Meghalaya police is still clueless about their fate.
On August 2, both Harsha Goel and his cousin Sanchit Goel, were abducted by an armed gang who had demanded Rs ten lakh for their release while they were on their way to school.
The parents have again appealed to the abductors to release their children.
Police have arrested 13 people, alleged to be involved in the case. But despite these arrests, the police are still in the dark about the whereabouts of the two children.
''We are still putting efforts to trace the two bducted children,'' Shillong (City) Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang told UNI here today.
The police had alerted other state police forces and the BSF here to help in rescuing the two school students aged four.
The Manipur Police had arrested Raju Biswas and Chandraprakash Sharma from Imphal city for their alleged involvement in the case.
Soon after, the state police along with its Special Operation Team, arrested Sagar Chettri alias Kancha, alleged to be the main accused in the kidnapping case. Chettri was cooling his heels at Mawlasnai village in the state's Ri-Bhoi district bordering Asom.
However, all the accused have denied knowing about the whereabouts of Harsha and Sanchit.
The BSF had requested Bangladesh Rifles to trace the two in its territory, as the police did not rule out the possibility of the kidnapper's crossing over to Bangladesh.
In recent months, a group of mothers' organisation had appealed to Meghalaya Chief Minister J D Rymbai to trace the children at the earliest.
