Indian Society of Labour Eco meet from Jan 5

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 29: The 48th national annual conference of Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE), will be held here for three days from January five.

BU Vice-Chancellor Dr C Thangamuthu told reporters University Grants Commission Chairman S K Thorat, ISLE President T S Papola, Kerala State Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Prabhat Patnaik and Former Madras Institute of Development Studies Chairman Prof S Neelakantan would participate.

The conference would focus on three themes - Wages and Employment, Agrarian Crisis and Rural Labour and the Trade Union Movement.

Internationally acclaimed economists would deliver lectures on the first and second day of the conference organized by the Bharathidasan University (BU).

He said the conference would hold discussions about the plight of labourers in the context of globalization, flow of Foreign Direct Investment in the country, decline of agriculture among others.
