21st Guwahati Book Fair begins from tomorrow

Guwahati, Dec 29 (UNI) The 21st Guwahati Book Fair will begin here at Assam Engineering Institute (AEI) ground From tomorrow.

The 12 day long fair is being organised by Assam Publication Board at the cost of 18 lakhs rupees.

Speaking at a press conference Asom Education Minister Mr Ripun Bora said 114 publication and book sellers organization from various states including two from neighbouring Bangladesh have confirmed their participation in the fair .

He informed that out of 172 stalls 60 stalls are for publication organisations from North Eastern region.

He also added that hence forth every year the fair would be organised on December 30.

Publication Board Secretary Rafiquz Zaman said, ''This year we have published eight new books and re-published 21 books on various subjects of culture, heritage, literature, language, drama, history of Asom.'' Mr Zaman said ''to attract maximum number of students cultural programs were being organised by the various schools and colleges in the state instead of inviting cultural organisers.'' Besides, competitions like painting, quiz, drama and debate would also be organised, he added.

There had been no entry fees for students but the visitors have to pay Rs 3 per head.
