Vadodara, Dec 28 (UNI) Former champions Vadodara notched up a comfortable 4-wicket win over Haryana on the final day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A'' match played at the Motibaug Palace ground here today.

Haryana, hoping to turn the table in their favour after an early wicket, were frustrated as Vadodara skipper Jacob Martin (not out 69) and wicket-keeper Pinal Shah (not out 36) guided the side to victory at the stroke of lunch surpassing the target of 213 with an unbeaten 79-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Gaining four points from this outright win, the hosts have taken their tally to 13 points from five outings with two matches against defending champions UP and Tamil Nadu left. On the other hand, Haryana, which had picked up only seven points so far, were out of contention.

Requiring 84 runs for an outright victory on the final day today with five second innings wickets in hand, Vadodara who resumed at 129 for five, suffered an early jolt when Haryana skipper Joginder Sharma had the scalp of Ajit Bhoite for one through Sunny Singh at first slip.

This led the match to suspense and mounting excitement as the hosts still required 79 runs with four wickets in hand to win the match. But Vadodara skipper Martin, who was joined by wicket-keeper Pinal Shah, played with dogged determination despite all pressure tactics of the opponents. The duo carried the side's score from 134 for six to the target of 213 putting on 79 runs off 225 balls in their 145-minute unbroken partnership for the seventh wicket.

Martin. who virtually came on Haryana's way by holding up one end of the crease for nearly four hours, embellished his unbeaten 69 with 11 fours.
